Budgeting Debt Management Student Loans

I grew up in New Jersey and built a career as an accounting professional, now with more than 16 years of experience. I am currently pursuing the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) certification, which led me to 3rd Decade. My real financial journey began when I graduated college carrying over six figures of student loan debt. Many times, it felt overwhelming, but I made a promise to myself to stay consistent and chip away at it. Years later, I can proudly say I paid it all off by myself. The experience taught me the limits we face are often the ones we place on ourselves — and with discipline and persistence, we can reach even our biggest goals.

Today, I live in Houston, TX with my spouse, our son and dog. Beyond numbers and spreadsheets, I enjoy reading, practicing yoga and traveling.

What is a quote you like to live by? “Slow motion is better than no motion.” In our society there is a big focus on instant gratification and many times the consistency it takes to achieve a task will take time. For example, compiling consumer debt or student loans took time and it will take time to eliminate those debts. We need to find our internal motivation and a community to encourage you to stay the course over the long term.
Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them. I have a 5.5 year old Boxer named Cookie. She is incredibly kind and super patient with our toddler who likes to play rough.
Would you like to share a short quote about the impact you hope to make by volunteering for 3rd Decade? “My journey to debt freedom taught me discipline, and sustaining that discipline gave me freedom. My hope is to remind others that their limits aren’t fixed — with steady steps, they can create the financial future they imagine.”
